Bodies of three teenagers recovered after drowning in Damodar river

A tragic incident unfolded near Randiha Dam on the Damodar river as three teenagers drowned while bathing in the reservoir. On Wednesday afternoon, seven youths from Kanksa had gone to the Randiha reservoir, located under the Sonamukhi police station in Bankura district. Caught in the river’s strong currents, all seven were pulled under.

Local fishermen and residents rushed to the scene and were able to rescue four of the boys. However, three others—Jeetu Adhikari, Abhijeet Gain, and Surjeet Vishwas—remained missing. Despite immediate efforts by the police from Sonamukhi and Budbud police stations, the boys could not be located.

The Disaster Response Force was called in and launched a search operation on a war footing. By Wednesday evening, all three bodies were recovered from the reservoir. The deceased were between 16 and 17 years old. The incident has left the local community in shock, and grieving families are now demanding better safety measures at the popular water body.

The authorities are expected to review protocols and implement stricter safety guidelines to prevent such tragedies in the future.
